Swansea Ballet Russe presents a special 'working dress rehearsal' of their brand new ballet production 'Cinderella', the traditional children's fairytale in two acts by Charles Perrot with music by Serge Prokofiev for a preview performance at Swansea Grand Theatre prior to touring throughout the UK in autumn 2006 on Saturday 17th June 2.00pm
Cinderella, with its fairytale ingredients, is brought magically to life by its wicked stepmother, the ugly sisters, a King and handsome Prince, creating a wonderful classical Russian ballet of this traditional fable portrayed by Swansea's acclaimed ballet company, Ballet Russe
Set to the moving, complex and rich music of Serge Prokofiev using elements of his original score alongside his 'Tale of the Stone Flower' music, Cinderella is danced to new choreography by Alexander Shemenchukov, who has fused classical and 'neo-classical' Russian styles to create a unique version of a classic favourite that will begin touring the UK throughout the autumn and winter.
There are over 1500 variations of the Cinderella story existing and in Ballet, there are three major productions including the original Prokofiev (1945), The Ashton (1948) and Stevenson (1970) productions. Ballet Russe hopes to add to this repertoire, as, thanks to support from the City and County of Swansea, along with Carmarthen County Council, they have been able to specially design a brand new staging of this production including sets and costumes. This will be Ballet Russe's second major new production after the hugely successful La Fille mal gardeé in 2004 (a production that is now being revived by several major UK ballet companies!)
Tickets at the special price of just £10.00, are available from the Theatre Box Office, 01792 475715.
