RICHARD BURTON IN SWEDISH !

RICHARD BURTON IN SWEDISH ! The Lorensbergsteatern in Gothenburg, Sweden, is currently hosting a short run of Playing Burton by Welsh playwright, Mark Jenkins.

It has been translated into Swedish with a Swedish actor in the role. Tickets are apparently sold out. The Lorensbergteatern was where Swedih dramatist August Strindberg had a number of premieres.

In October, Playing Burton had another US opening at the Odyssey Theatre, Chapel Hill, in what was billed as 'the North Carolina premiere'. The play has now been performed over 1,000 times by six different actors on three continents and shows no sign of slowing up. First performed in London in the mid-1980's, not a year has passed without substantial runs of this play about the boy from Pontrhydyfen.

Says Mark, ' I'd love to have been in Gothenburg for this, but I know even less Swedish than I do Welsh.'
