This summer the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff will be presenting a production by its annual Summer School, which is supported by Legal & General.
The production has been inspired by Lewis Carroll's famous books, "Alice in Wonderland" and "Alice Through the Looking Glass". Alice - A State of Mind will be on the Sherman's main stage on Friday 29th August and Saturday 30th August 2003 at 7.30pm.
Over the course of August, 25 young people from all over and around Cardiff area will rehearse with the Sherman's Youth Theatre Director Philip MacKenzie to create a piece of theatre which reveals the peculiarity of their own thoughts, dreams and experiences.
The young people will also work with film and video maker Ron Bunzl in creating the multimedia element to the production. Movement director for the Royal Shakespeare Company, Mike Ashcroft, will also be assisting in creating the production. Mike worked with the Summer School last year and directed the movement in the successful Lord of the Flies Revisited.
The piece will be set on a giant chessboard and will explore the distorted world of our subconscious through film, movement, music and dance. The production will not be a re-telling of the well-known "Alice..." stories but will use elements and themes from the books and stories in conjunction with ideas and experiences from the young people's lives.
Alice - A State of Mind will be performed on 29th and 30th August at 7:30pm.
Tickets for this theatrical spectacle are just £1 and are available from the Sherman Theatre Box Office on 029 2064 6900.
